Abstract

A pattern reconfigurable U-slot antenna on a microwave substrate is presented. The antenna consists of a U-slot patch and eight shorting posts. Each edge of the square patch is connected to two shorting posts by PIN diodes. By switching between the different states of the PIN diodes, the proposed antenna can radiate boresight or conical patterns; moreover, the position of the main lobes of the conical pattern can also be changed between two orthogonal planes of the conical beam. The predicted overlapping impedance bandwidth ( s11 ≤-10 dB) is 6.5% with a center frequency of 5.24GHz. Preliminary theoretical results on impedance bandwidths and radiation patterns for the different states of the reconfigurable antenna are described.

The output ports contain band-pass filters using coupled lines. This antenna has rectangular resonating slots in the ground plane, below coupled lines and resonating at the two operating frequencies. The proposed antenna is to be used for frequency reconfigurable active antennas. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement. A frequency- and pattern-reconfigurable wideband slot antenna is proposed in this paper. The antenna consists of two sickle-shaped slots and a fork-shaped feed line. Two switches are placed in the slots to achieve frequency reconfiguration, and two additional PIN diodes are positioned in the feed line to produce pattern reconfiguration. Slot antenna produces a bidirectional radiation pattern, thus a reflector is positioned behind of the antenna to generate a directional radiation pattern.
