The most famous slot canyons near Page are definitely Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon, but these aren't the only slot canyons in the area. Buckskin Gulch, Waterholes Canyon, Zebra Canyon, Peek-a-Boo Canyon and the Zion Narrows (part of the Grand Circle) are quite popular among the self-guiding, canyoneering community. If you aren't an experienced enough to take on a slot canyon on your own safely, that doesn't mean Antelope Canyon is your only choice.

A few lesser known slot canyons have opened up to the public over the years, that is, with the permitted access of a tour guide company. Most of these slot canyons are on Navajo land and are a very important part of their culture and heritage. It's a priviledge that these canyons are being shared with us. Some of these other slot canyons are Cardiac Canyon, Secret Canyon, Rams Head, Ligai Si Anii and Wind Pebble Canyons. Most of these tours, if not all, are operated by Navajo tour companies and require paying an $8 Navajo Permit Fee in addition to the tour package price. Going on one of these slot canyon tours is a fantastic way to avoid the crowds and have a more relaxed experience in these truly magnificant canyons.

Guided Tour to Upper Antelope Canyon – Chief Tsosie’s guides know all the hot spots and they will guide you through an amazing natural wonder of Antelope Canyon. They will provide you with the secret knowledge of photographing the beams and dance with the sand. We will have little chance to be alone in the canyon on this tour, nor will we be able to hear the quiet that some of the other tour-times provide, but this tour is a photographic extravaganza. We believe we have the best time starting at 10:30am for photographing the canyon. We get the early development of the light beams and stay until the beams start to lift off the canyon floor. This tour is lead with precision and experience.

10:30am (peak hour)- This is the prime sunbeam tour. The colors are fairly uniform throughout the canyon and visibility is good. If some of the colors are not as brilliant, be assured that at their worst, they are spectacular. We linger at the sunbeams which pour down like heavenly messages. We will have little chance to be alone in the canyon on this tour, nor will we be able to hear the quite that some of the other tour-times provide, but this is a visual extravaganza. Sunbeam comes in from April 1 – Sept 30.

  1. Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, about 52 miles north of Las Vegas, offers a brief hike on the White Domes trail that will take you to a lovely, short slot canyon that seems to have avoided.
  2. Slot canyons are also located in the valley between U.S. Route 89 and the Vermilion Cliffs in Arizona, and can be seen as one descends into the valley on U.S. 89, but these are on the Navajo reservation and are closed to the public.
