Truman Lake Guide Service Since 1985. I have been fishing the waters of Truman Lake, the home of some of the largest hybrids around. Crappie and White Bass inhabit the lake in large numbers. It would be my pleasure to take you on a fun-filled day of fishing, or a half-day if you prefer. (A) From the no-fishing zone below Truman Dam downstream throughout the no-boating zone, the daily limit of channel catfish, blue catfish and flathead catfish is four (4) in the aggregate. On Lake of the Ozarks and its tributaries and Truman Lake and its tributaries, the daily and possession limit of blue catfish is ten (10). Of those 10 blue catfish of the daily limit, no more than two can be longer than 34 inches. There is now also a protected slot length of 26” to 34”. Any blue catfish caught on these waterways that.

Note that a protected slot limit pertaining to blue catfish went into effect in 2014. All blue catfish from 26 inches to 34 inches must be immediately returned to the water. If you are after channel catfish, try to keep your bait on or near the bottom, and fish relatively close to the shoreline. A friend of mine said he heard the doc was going to put a slot limit on catfish at truman lake. I enjoy putting jugs out and then crappie fishing. I wondered if any of you guys have heard if they are going to do the slot thing, and what it will entail.

A sprawling 55,600-acre reservoir, Truman Lake offers excellent fishing for bass, crappies, white bass, stripers and other species virtually year-round. It is considered by many to be the best catfish lake in the state. Marinas and boat launch areas are available to the public. For those who enjoy fishing from the bank, there are over 950 miles of shoreline. Those who prefer to fish from a canoe, kayak, or another fishing boat, there is plenty of easy access. Benton County is a fisherman’s paradise! There are 55,600 acres of Truman Lake fishing and 54,000 acres of Lake of the Ozarks fishing in Benton County! Truman and Lake of the Ozarks are home to trophy largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish just waiting for your challenge!

And if a new challenge is what you are looking for, consider spoonbill fishing. For many years, Warsaw has maintained the title of “Spoonbill Capital of the World.”

Don’t take our word for it. Check out the MDC fishing report for Truman Lake here or Lake Ozark here!

Catfish

Fish areas near swift current and deep water in large rivers. Heavy gear should be used because blues weighing 20 to 50 pounds are common in these waters.

Paddlefish

Also known as “spoonbills” because of the shape of their snouts, the fish feed on plankton and other microscopic prey and therefore do not take bait from hooks and must be snagged. The best snagging conditions occur when water temperature reaches 50 to 55 degrees and there is an increase in water flow. This prompts them to move upstream to spawn. Snagging season runs March 15 through April 30.
